Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) are once again enjoying the spotlight as they have been recognised as one of the best Management Schools in the country. This outstanding achievement was published on the LUMS website on the 18th April 2011. The UK’s Top 10 Management Schools have been revealed following publication of the UK Business School league tables. Three of the UK’s key national newspapers have published their top UK University guides and Lancaster is rated in the top ten of all of these. The Guardian, The Independent and The Times have all rated Lancaster as one of the best places to study for your business degree, with LUMS qualifying in the top 10 of each of these newspapers guides. When you review the other 9 contenders in these results; Oxford, Cambridge, Warwick and St Andrews to name just a handful, you see the caliber that this outstanding UK Business School has. Each newspaper has given Lancaster its own particular accolade. The Guardian rated Lancaster as the best business school in the North of the UK. Lancaster gains this coveted title by beating off stiff competition from other highly regarded business schools in the North such as Leeds and Manchester. The Times Good University Guide shows Lancaster shooting into a top ten position for the first time. The Times also carried out the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey. This extensive survey saw over 13,000 Undergraduate students surveyed from over 100 Universities around the UK. They were asked detailed questions on how they rated all areas of University life in their chosen institution of study. They were also given the power to choose 21 areas from their University that they wishes to be included in the survey. This powerful tool is a huge insight into the Students’lives and their views on their institutions. This annual survey saw Lancaster rated top UK Business School in the North West of England and 15th in the whole of the UK. The Students of Lancaster rated it very highly on everything from the facilities to the staff. This is reflective of the quality of the Business Degree available to study at Lancaster. The Complete University Guide which aims to help Students make an informed choice about where to study and the degree to choose also ranks Lancaster as the top Business School in the North West. The guide gave Lancaster top marks for key areas such as graduate prospects, research assessment and student to staff ratio. The University states that one of its key goals is to continue to achieve excellence in research and this has certainly been highlighted by the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) published in 2008. The RAE recognised that overall, 92% of research at Lancaster is to an international standard of excellence and much of the research was said to be world leading. It rates Lancaster in the top band of Universities in the UK. It is no wonder then that Lancaster University Management School is consistently ranked in the UK’s top five Business School’s and is ranked amongst the World’s Best Business School’s. With such consistently high reviews it is clear to see why Lancaster is held in such high esteem by its Students, Staff and Partners. The facilities are world leading also, with the £10 million Charles Carter building being opened recently by HRH Princess Alexandra (the Founding Chancellor of Lancaster University), there’s never been a better time to study at Lancaster.
