A good club promoter can make a few thousand dollars in one night, but although it may look easy, promoting parties takes a lot of planning and strategy. The good news is that no special skills or formal qualifications are required to become a party promoter. However before you start, you must be prepared.

Step 1: Do Your Research

You must enjoy going to parties if you want to promote them. You also must enjoy being around people. You must enjoy mingling and idle chit chat. You can’t be shy. You must be able to initiate a conversation. If any of this scares you, you might want to embark on another line of work. Before you start throwing your own parties, you must get some insight into the party scene. Go to some club nights. Check out other local promoters and find out how they do their events. Step 2: Hone Neccessary Skills

Promoters must be good salespeople. Essentially, club promoters are selling the party, so they must understand how to appeal to a variety of people. Communication skills are also vital, because party promoters do their job primarily by talking to other people. But the key ingredient to a party promoter's success is networking. Word of mouth can be the best sales technique. Promoters can network with photographers, deejays, club owners and caterers to help launch their professional careers. They can also network with friends and family to try to build a loyal customer base. Party promoters are only as good as the number of people they can get to attend the parties they promote, so it is vital for promoters to keep their party-goers happy and eager to attend other parties.

Step 4: Promote and Market the Party

Party promoters spend most of their time marketing and promoting parties by creating and distributing flyers, using word of mouth, or, increasingly, through social networking. Social network platforms have become an important method for party promoters to inform a large number of people simultaneously about an upcoming event. Facebook, Twitter and MySpace are among the social networking services now being used to promote parties and events.

Step 5: Have a Party

Generally, party promoters work as independent contractors. As self-employed business people, party promoters are required to find clients and perform all the tasks agreed upon in a contract. After booking a party and signing a contract, the party promoter is responsible for marketing the event and recruiting guests to attend.

It is important for party promoters to be present at the parties they promote. In addition to attending the party, promoters can also hire photographers to record the event. These photos can be put in a portfolio that will serve to showcase the promoter's work and secure more jobs.
