There are different banking facilities and options for people with diverse interests, having different professions and occupations. Also there are different sort of accounts that can be opened in a bank. Merchant account is one such important account that the banks provide to the merchants for facilitating them to accept credit card payments done by the customer. Generally, the credit card companies, banks or any other payment processor help the merchants to open up a merchant account. There exist three different kinds of merchant accounts. These are Retail Merchant account, Mail Order Telephone Order (MOTO) account, and Internet Merchant account. This type of account offers lowest transaction fees, but is more demanding on the part of the customer like it asks for manually swiping of the credit card via a credit card terminal for the transaction to take place. Restaurants and grocery stores operate through this type of account. In cases when credit cards cant be used manually, comes the role of Mail Order Telephone Order (MOTO) account. This kind of an account charges higher transaction rates, wherein the merchants have to process the payments done by the customer by entering the customers credit card data onto a personal computer, or through a standard web browser, where they can process the transaction on the payment service provider's website. In the Internet Merchant Account the merchants have to carry out the transactions via the internet. This type of an account can only be operated for performing online transactions. In Internet Merchant account, the merchants use a payment service gateway or a virtual terminal to process credit card transactions. The merchant has to use the payment service gateway for processing the credit card payments. Most of the business web hosting packages has included the gateways as their part. They can be adapted to suit to the requirements of the merchants. These accounts charge a higher fee than the other two types of accounts. Security is an important factor when it comes to operating an Internet Merchant account. Whether you require an Internet Merchant account or not depends upon the nature and volume of your business.
