Normally, the use of these products will only provide protection for up to 3 years and a regular paint job will last for up a minimum of 5 years and maximum of 10 years. Water repellant products have two major flaws - it cannot totally provide protections against water entering the tiny pores and it only provides a very short protection period. Preservation products, on the other hand, provide protection against termites, insects and decay. You do not need a preservation product anymore if it is already pressure-treated. The stains finish or products protect your deck against the harmful UV rays that can cause weakening of it many parts and prevents discoloration due to extreme heat from the sun or rain.

Doing deck restoration every 3 years is worth the work and extra expense rather than replacing the whole deck itself.
